Prisoner Listings 
The following is a list of Latin American prisoners who have been jailed over land struggles, riots, or other attacks against the people and institutions of domination. We want this list to be a comprehensive listing of anti-authoritarian and anti-political prisoners. We have no interest in listing prisoners who are part of the authoritarian left. In some cases it may be difficult to know the personal orientation of certain individuals in jail. For example, while spokes people for the EZLN may have political aspirations, many in the zapatista movement do not. We would not knowingly list political hacks and we rely on others to keep us informed about prisoners in order for us to differentiate between those we wish to support and those we don't. Our obvious focus is on anarchist or anarchistic prisoners as well as most indigenous people (who are anti-authoritarian).

Comrades who are outside of Latin America
Prisoner support and solidarity actions are an accessible way to integrate and support the resistance of our Latin American comrades. Receiving mail from far away places can significantly boost morale. Because of exchange rates, western currency can go much further in helping prisoners meet their needs. Also, writing to those imprisoned is often one of the best ways to learn about the conflicts taking place. So we really want to encourage as many people as possible to get involved with support and solidarity activities.

Please email us with news and updates on prisoners and we will post pertinent information here and publish it in our journal. It will be helpful for us is you can send a brief description of what the prisoner is charged with, related websites (or other background), what their specific needs are (legal funds, letters, support for family, etc.), and what languages the prisoner speaks. 

MAPUCHE PRISONERS
Several members of the Mapuche tribe are serving sentences for arson attacks on the property of farmers and forestry people who have occupied their land.

MEXICO
Carlos Arroyo - was arrested in May 2001 in Mexico City, framed by police for an alleged robbery. He was beaten and tortured by police at the time of his arrest and faced an unfair trial that involved an extensive fabrication of false evidence against him. 

His original sentence was 15 years, though it was subsequently reduced to 12. Prior to his arrest Carlos was involved in the anarchist community in Mexico City; he also participated in the university student strikes. It is likely that he was set-up by the state as retaliation for his political activities. He was 22 at the time of his arrest. Carlos' family is extremely poor and has been unable to shoulder the burden of legal expenses. They were scammed by two lawyers, which not only resulted in a loss of money, but also squandered many of Carlos' chances for appeals. They have depended on the support of friends and are still greatly in need of financial assistance. Several benefit compilation tapes/cds have been made on Carlos' behalf. Recently his sentence was reduced to 6 years based on his "good behavior." There is a slim possibility that a new law in Mexico City could result in a further reduction of his sentence, but that remains unclear at this point. He is also investigating the possibility of moving to a different prison. His family is currently raising funds to obtain a new lawyer and launch another appeal. Outside resources also enable his family to continue visiting him, as well as buy food for him in prison and bribe prison guards to prevent physical abuse.
